WHAT'S THE POINT?

The thing is - there has to be a point to things - suffering too. You can say there isn't, but if you want to talk logic, then that would make absolutely no logical sense. Many people say to me I can't prove there is a 'God', (whichever model you go with) where's the evidence, and I say true, if you go with the scientific model - not quantitatively. But qualitatively, from my own experience, then there is a lot of evidence - dreams, images, feelings, intuitions, insights, inspirational moments (sailing in the Bite on a full moon, catching a wave...., music, love)

The other thing is: they haven't proven to me that there is no God either. So their argument is flawed.

The point is, if we don't find a meaning for the shit, then life is a crock of shit. Simple. Because shit happens. We can take the victim approach and just give up on that or find another myth that encourages courage, which is needed. Most people are sleep-walking through thier lives. Shit happens and they just get sad, angry, bitter......or they think they are being punished, and maybe they deserve it for being a wanker, having too much sex etc etc. For me personally, and I don't consider myself very brave at all, the shamanic thing works. I reckon Jung was one. There are physical and there are psychic risks, and I reckon I have taken more of the latter than most.

We have to find our own story, our own myth, our own symbols, take our own journey. That's what Jung was on about, that's what the sages and the gurus have also been on about, in different ways, forever. Skepticism is good, but to the skeptics who want evidence? (and I get quite angry about this): go and have a fucking good look, not just a pathetic attempt at it, a GOOD hard look, over a long period of time, and put some effort and commitment into it. I challenge anyone to go and do that and not find it. I've been on this road, in this life, for 35 years. And people want to say to me: where's the evidence? When they haven't even bothered to look themselves. Go figure.

I heard something the other night (of all things on 'Crownies'). One of the characters said: Why is it considered so much smarter to believe in 'nothing' than 'something'? Bloody good question.

I agree with you, Michelle, about the importance of finding some meaning in life - meaning my word, here - otherwise as you say, what is the point?

Thanks Eisabeth. I had that particular word in there initially.

So true Michelle and I bloody love that question...which also highlights that the seemingly insignificant (i.e. random TV show in this instance) holds within it kernels of truth for those with eyes to see and ears to hear....
Journeying with an open mind and heart - so much more interesting - however challenging ;)

People don't want depth, they want to skim along the shallow pond and just as well I suppose to avoid drowning. When our hunger for depth is strong enough drowning is a risk worth taking.

At least it was on the ABC Wadjella Yorga :)

I know you are right Joan, I just find it difficult living in that kind of world.

When Carl Jung was interviewed by the BBC in the 50's he was asked ' Do you believe in God ? ' Jung replied 'No, I know God '

I don't believe in God either or rather I do not believe of God in a religious sense. But rather as that unknowable power/force that created the properties and conditions from which all the planets etc came from; If you want to refer to 'it' as God I won't argue with you because I refer to 'it' as Pip and I use the word "Pip" because of it's self regeneration qualities.

I agree with you Mr Heron, the whole debate about the 'spiritual' has become confused with 'religion', which isn't really the same thing - though there are obvious overlaps.

I agree there is something and I have been known to call the Kimberley 'God's country' for want of a better description and I am not religious but those are the words that came out of my mouth when I experienced the Kimberley.

I think spirituality is God. I think God is a part of spirituality because we as human beings need something tangible to explain the unexplainable. Shit happens because it is how we learn. When we are challenged we develop new skills. Some people can't face the challenge and choose a path that is detrimental to their life, others take up the challenge.

Personally Michelle I reckon you should just go for a surf at Dawn, watch the sun come up and experience God. Life is fun and sometimes it is better not to analyse it but to experience it. As for the shit take the challenge and grow. Either way its all good or God?

I do go for a surf Barb, and I enjoy Nature evry day. Not one day goes by without me acknowledging that it is God's greatest creation - even on my drive to work through the countryside.

I agree, we learn from tough times. And it's those tough times that really test how deeply we are connected to 'God' - because it's easy to love God when It is being kind to you.
