Video Fuckheads

I think I have posted the pen drawing previously - this is the final colour version. Inspired by one of my pet hates.

  1. Nice drawing. I also don't like being photographed or videoed. Before I retired I worked at a university and advised students who published the campus newspapers and poetry journals. Every quarter I invited a lawyer to lecture about the First Amendment and what the limits of Free speech and Free Press are. I always remember that the lawyer told the students that when we are out in public there is no expectation of privacy. People are free to take pictures. Ugh. The only people protected from that invasion of privacy are children. Makes me wonder what the laws are like there.

    1. Thanks Robin. I think the laws are the same in Australia, but I also think the law hasn't caught up with technology - which is an ongoing problem because technology moves so much faster. It's one thing to allow traditional photography in public spaces, but when you add video and readily available drones to the mix there is a whole new level of invasion of privacy.

    2. I agree with you. The new technologies make privacy an old-fashioned concept. There are cameras everywhere, including drones. It's definitely invasive and unsettling. Here the First Amendment was meant to protect freedom of speech and the press. Now it has been expanded to include anyone with a camera. Not sure what can be done.

    3. The first step is letting people know it's not OK - challenge the slavish acceptance of technology as the not-so-new God. I've checked the legislation in regard to my rights and you are correct, we basically have none in public. However in my usual subversive way I have found a loophole and devised a plan. The next time someone videos me as part of their holiday 'snaps', depending on my mood at the time of course, I'll pull my t-shirt up and flash my tits at them, then advise them it's illegal to video people having sex or being naked. Haha....
