This is funny because it is so accurate! And you can put it on repeat because it happens over and over again - no matter how good you get at your craft. It's just the life of the creative and it's something you have to get used to very early on in your career.
I'd go even further and say that if an artist ever gets smug about what they are doing - they have lost their way.

That is v. funny. Classic creative's scenario.
ReplyDeleteI knew you would relate to this Sarah.
DeleteFailure, to begin with ... I gave an artist's talk on failure recently beginning with Samuel Beckett's words 'To write is to fail.' Lost my shit to an anxiety attack in front of thirty people mid speech. Excruciating.
DeleteMaybe the audience thought you were doing a demonstration of failure. I know how that feels. It's paralysing. There are times I've crashed out giving talks, but times I've really nailed it. I've had to learn how to overcome my natural tendency for introversion in order to do it. It's taken me decades.
DeleteThank you for the much-needed good laugh.
