Random Reality

On the one hand COVID restrictions imposed on our state - with very few active cases and hardly any deaths - seem draconian and well, kind of weird. It's like living in an alternative universe here in the west. It's very difficult for us to appreciate what the east coast, and the rest of the world, is going through.

Even so, I fully support our state premier for keeping our borders closed and flipping the bird at wealthy bastard businessman Clive Palmer who is suing him and our state because he has been shut out. My own response to the virus is a bit schizoid too so it's no wonder people are polarised about it.

This series of posts by Richard Rose sums up the dilemma. Many of us have felt the way Richard felt - that doing things like wearing masks and taking the virus too seriously - is overreacting. Sadly, when you see how quickly things changed for him, the randomness of this reality is all too clear.

Vale Richard.

  1. The fires here have put the virus headlines below the top news feeds in California. We know it's still raging, especially here in the US. With schools reopening the virus seems to be spreading more. Our local university decided to let some students come back to campus, against the advice of the county health officer. Of course after just one week, there are five cases on campus. It's a serious thing. We wear our masks and take precautions.

    1. Yes I wonder what will take COVID off the front pages here in Australia. This country is so eastcoast-centric. 400 of the 500 deaths have occurred in Victoria and they are our most profitable state. I don't know why - they produce nothing of any real-life value really. It's all tourism and paper shuffling, which is why they have been hit so hard economically. COVID once again exposing the weaknesses of capitalism. My state produces much of the real wealth in mining in this country but a lot of what we make gets used to prop up other eastern states. And now they are sucking all the oxygen out of the airwaves. I wish we could secede - it's been on the cards for decades.
