Keep on Truckin'

I'm back at work this week and we'll see how that goes. I always have one foot out the door but I still need the job and feel a sense of responsibility to my students. If I left, the art program would probably shut down altogether. For many years they didn't have one because they couldn't find or keep an art lecturer. The job requires a particular combination of resilience, knowledge, cultural sensitivity and the ability to administer large doses of tough love.

It's reassuring to know that somewhere in the world emus are doing what they've been doing for millennia.

  1. That's a stunning shot!

Resilience, knowledge, cultural sensitivity and tough love all together would be a rare combination, keep at it!

    1. Thanks Kylie. I nearly walked out today, not because of the students, but because we had to wear masks when we have 1 case in WA, no cummunity transmission and we are not in a locked down area. I agreed in principle, but I couldn't see because my glasses kept fogging up and it did seem like overkill. I need the job but that wasn't why I stayed. I thought of the guys who had just come out of 6 weeks of no school with very little to do. It's always them that keeps me going back.

  2. That photo is truly beautiful. What a moment!
Your job does sound very challenging. It's good you know how to administer large doses of tough love, and all the other skills you have mastered.

    1. I think the photo is taken in Broome, WA Robin. And yes, my job is challenging and I seem to have acquired the skills I need for it quite by accident.
