Our gobsmackingly ridiculous government has finally made a pathetic attempt to announce a 'climate policy' - net zero by 2050 - just in time for COP 26. Of course it won't do anything to make it possible to live on a burning planet, but more importantly it won't disadvantage any sector of the economy either, particularly their buddies in fossil fuel or mining. It will also keep the farmers happy, even though many have seen the writing on the wall and started moving across to new ways of doing things.
This policy is so gutless, so nebulous and so perfect in its ability to feed everyone - it's been dubbed the 'Magic Pudding Climate Policy'*. I'd already tagged it thus before one of my favourite ABC journos called it.
Oh yeh, and because the government really 'struggled' to get agreement between the 2 coalition parties that enble it to hold power, this amazing policy has a 'badge of authenticity'. FFS. Do they really think we are that stupid. Obviously many are, because they have continued to vote for them - through 20+ years of climate wars in this country.
I hope our prime minister's arse gets roasted at the next election.
* The concept behind Norman Lindsay's Magic Pudding is that it replaces itself and therefore has the ability to feed (please) everyone.

Have you ever wondered how it happened that STUPID has taken over the governments everywhere? We are so deeply in trouble on our beautiful planet. It blows my mind everyday, and to be honest it keeps me up at night too.
ReplyDeleteI do wonder Robin, but then I think I know the answer. The responsibility lies ultimately with those who, in a democracy, put these idiots in power. Australians are lazy thinkers who really believe they are still living in the 'lucky country'. They prefer to be in denial because they'd rather believe the myth than face the reality - Australia has a dark heart which collectively it will not acknowledge, let alone seek redemption for. Until that gets sorted, I don't think there is much hope for us.
DeleteBloody brilliant Michelle!
ReplyDeleteI watched his COP speech today. How embarassing
Thanks Sarah. Yes I cringed at what I headr of the COP speech, but felt more disgusted at his slimey strategic move to try and garner support for has position on the submarine contract with the French. Never heard such BS in all my life: 'I can take the criticism, I've got broad shoulders, but I won't stand by while Australia gets trashed'. FFS. So cringe-worthy. Nobody was trashing Australia - they don't need to while Morrison is our representative.
DeleteMacron clearly prefaced his criticism of our PM with the observation that he has a lot of respect for our country and our people - but little for the man who lied to him: none other than our god-bothering, manipulative, insincere and sociopathic PM. He lies bare-faced to us ALL the time so it's easy to believe he lied to Macron. Morrison's pathetic attempt to shift the focus and get us 'Aussies' to rally behind him made me feel sick. The real problem is that many 'patriotic' idiotic Australians will buy it.
